Feeling Helpless and Stressed? You're Not Alone

Corinne Mason, PhD·

Feeling increasingly helpless and stressed in general? You are not alone. Recent events are not distant headlines anymore. They're impacting how we show up, physically and mentally, in the workplace and beyond.

In a world where political instability and economic uncertainty feel relentless, many leaders are carrying more than their roles require—and doing it quietly, because the expectation is that leaders hold it together.

But holding it together and pretending it isn't hard are two very different things.

I've been in conversations with senior leaders recently who are exhausted in a way that goes beyond workload. They're grieving. They're anxious. They're trying to lead teams through uncertainty while managing their own.

If that's where you are right now, I want you to hear this: your humanity is not a liability. It's what makes you trustworthy.

Leaders who acknowledge the weight of what's happening—without catastrophizing, without pretending—create permission for their teams to be honest too. That honesty is what allows organizations to adapt, support one another, and keep moving forward.

You don't have to have answers. You don't have to be unaffected. You just have to be present, honest, and willing to keep showing up.

That's enough. And right now, it's everything.
